Public Safety

Public Safety is under threat in Maryland, made worse by the thoughtless and irresponsible actions of Democrat government leaders, including my opponent in LD21, incumbent Democrat Jim Rosapepe.

In a recent community meeting, I learned that local police are active in our LD21 communities in many areas, such as dealing with missing persons, vehicle theft, and property crime. In one recent incident at Seven Springs Apartments in College Park, the police have been investigating a surge of some 50 vehicle break-ins as reported in a single night.

I also learned that juvenile gangs, sometimes managed by adult bosses, are commonly involved in this criminal activity, often closely connected with the large population of illegal aliens in our community. Just recently, a young teenage girl was found dead in College Park, the likely murder suspects being MS-13 gang members, presumably part of the illegal alien population.

Sadly, my opponent, Democrat Senator Rosapepe, along with the Democrat majority Maryland General Assembly, recently passed a “Community Trust Act,” which prohibits local police from collaborating with federal law enforcement agencies, such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE), to pursue a misguided policy of sanctuary for criminal illegal aliens. In the Maryland State Senate, I would strongly support a repeal to such “sanctuary” policies.

Other actions of Senator Rosapepe and the Democrat majority General Assembly have also made the enforcement of juvenile crime more difficult. For example, The Youth Charging Reform Act, which Senator Rosapepe recently voted for, now shifts most juvenile cases from adult to juvenile court starting October 2026.

Prosecutors argue this law creates a loophole allowing repeat juvenile offenders to avoid adult consequences. Others argue that it will clog up an already overcrowded Family Court docket, forcing Family Court judges to give much less time and attention to truly needy, more correctable youth to recover from lack of positive parental support and guidance.

In the Maryland State Senate, I would work against these unwise policies to support instead efforts to tighten enforcement of violent crime so often found among unsupervised youth in our community.
