Havis for Senate Fundraiser

On Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM, a fundraising luncheon was held at the Bob Evans Restaurant in Laurel, MD. After lunch, discussion focused on such practical issues as how to assure fair and honest elections in Maryland.

I pointed out how the Maryland General Assembly, dominated by narrow political interests of the majority of its members, set up laws to make voting extend over a long time, with such lax conditions for registration and retaining names on the lists, that it invites fraud and abuse in the process.

While voter ID is widely favored by ordinary citizens, the current laws don’t require even the basic showing of a picture ID to vote. In addition, a large number of “inactive” voters are maintained as registered. And this inflated registration roll, coupled with mail-in ballots and unsupervised 24-7 drop boxes, is yet further invitation to cheat for partisan, political purposes.

I pointed out that seeing the problem is only a very small first step to solving the problem, since the General Assembly must change the laws to really solve the problem. And members of the Assembly who seek the advantage of fraudulent voting by unqualified persons will not benefit from laws that aim to control such fraudulent voting practices. Happily, however, there is an active non-partisan group of grassroots patriots who are working to bring election integrity to the attention of the general public.

In the end, the luncheon did help the Havis campaign to assure much needed funds to continue outreach to voters, with the message of re-directing government for the citizens for a change.
